WHAT IS THE MERRITT MATRIX?

1 of 2

We envision a world where every individual with autism has the tools they need to communicate effectively, fostering greater independence and inclusion in society.

Our nonprofit organization is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with autism who struggle with language deficits and delays. Our primary goal is to raise funds to provide iPads as Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC) devices. These devices will significantly enhance the communication abilities of individuals with autism, allowing them to express their needs, thoughts, and emotions more effectively. By bridging the communication gap, we aim to empower individuals with autism to lead more inclusive and fulfilling lives.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

  • MATRIXTalk Kit

An all-in-one package to enhance communication through technology. Each Kit, valued at $900, empowers the individual with the tools they need for effective communication.
Each Apple iPad is carefully tailored to meet the unique needs of every child. We collaborate with Speech-Language Pathologists to customize everything, from the software they use to the protective case, ensuring that the device is perfectly suited to the individual. Every child is unique, and we are committed to providing the best support for their communication needs.
  • MATRIXTeach Kit

Boardmaker 7 software, valued at $400, is a powerful software program designed primarily for educators and speech-language professionals to create custom visual communication tools.

With a vast library of symbols and customizable templates, these programs help design communication boards, social stories, schedules, and interactive lessons tailored to each student’s needs. Whether in the classroom, therapy room, or at home, these tools empower professionals to enhance learning and communication, making it easier for individuals with autism and other communication challenges to express themselves and engage with their environment.
  • MATRIXPlay Boards

Communication boards for playgrounds, valued at $500 - 5000 are visual tools designed to help children communicate effectively in a social and active environment.

Communication boards on playgrounds and other public places are essential for children with speech or language challenges. By using symbols and words, these boards allow children to express their needs, emotions, and desires, promoting social interaction and reducing frustration. They help foster independence and inclusivity, creating welcoming spaces for all students to engage and communicate.

MONUMENTAL PARTNERSHIP

We are beyond thrilled to announce a monumental partnership with the State of Michigan, marking a huge step forward in our mission to empower nonverbal individuals with the tools they need to express themselves.
Over the next THREE YEARS, the state has committed to purchasing 30 MATRIXTalk Kits, ensuring that children in Barry County have access to life-changing communication devices. This partnership not only accelerates our impact but allows us to start gifting iPads much sooner than we ever imagined!
But that’s not all, we’re also teaming up with MDHHS for an upcoming Golf Scramble in August, where a majority of the funds raised will be donated directly to support our work.
This partnership is more than just numbers; it’s about people who saw the heart behind our mission and wanted to be part of something bigger. We started this journey with a goal of providing 10 kits this year, and in one incredible act of generosity, they made that goal a reality.
Because of this, we were able to start funding our very first communication board for TK, expand into Kent County much faster than anticipated, bringing devices to even more kids in need. We have been able to use funds from our 2025 Cornhole Tournament to support our next group of friends at Byron Center Early Childhood Center.

We are truly humbled and grateful for the incredible people who heard our story, believed in our mission, and took action to help make it a reality. This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see the ripple effect this will have in our community.
